BRIGHT STAR

DL projects is pleased to present Bright Star, a group exhibition celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of contemporary British creativity, with many of the artists exhibiting in Rome for the very first time: Alvaro Barrington, Lydia Blakeley, Sholto Blissett, Lewis Brander, Ryan Driscoll, Aaron Ford, Louise Giovanelli, Lewis Hammond, Kudzanai-Violet Hwami, Poppy Jones, Sang Woo Kim, Sahara Longe, George Rouy, Antonia Showering, Ella Walker and Flora Yukhnovich.

Some of Britain’s greatest poets have been influenced by Roman culture. Lord Byron referred to Rome as the ‘city of the soul’; John Keats wrote his last sonnet, from which the exhibition is titled after, ‘Bright star, were I as steadfast as thou art’ (1820) whilst en route to Rome before dying there in 1821 aged just 25.

Curated by Studio Geuna and accompanied with a text by Matt Carey-Williams, Bright Star offers a captivating snapshot of the dynamic visual energy shaping today's British artistic landscape. Each bringing a unique voice and vision, the artists in the exhibition reflect the richness of contemporary painting through diverse styles, themes, and perspectives, from abstract to figurative.

In Bright Star, the 16 participating artists have seemingly cemented their positions as key members of a new generation of painters.

Drawing upon the rich history of artistic exchange between Italy and Britain, the exhibition seeks to explore a new dialogue between British contemporary art and the timeless allure of Rome.
