LE FERITE DI ROMA

ROME 23 FEBRUARY 2023 - 25 MARCH 2023

The Wounds of Rome, a project curated by Spazio Taverna, aims to address ten dramatic episodes in the city's history, in a time span that goes from the assassination of Julius Caesar – which took place on the Ides of March 44 BC in the portico of the Theatre of Pompey – to the discovery of Aldo Moro's body on 9 May 1978 in Via Caetani.
The two curators of the project, Ludovico Pratesi and Marco Bassan, have chosen to remember these ten wounds, entrusting each of them to the free interpretation of an artist. All the protagonists of this narrative are well-known figures in the collective imagination: think of Giordano Bruno, whose imposing statue was placed in Campo de'Fiori in 1889, where the philosopher had been burned alive in February 1600; or Cola di Rienzo, Tribune of the Roman People who died in 1354 and remembered since 1887 with a monument on the slopes of the Campidoglio; and also Beatrice Cenci, Giacomo Matteotti and Pier Paolo Pasolini.
The artists who worked to heal these ten wounds with a symbolic image, according to an expressive language suitable for the practice of drawing on paper, were: Elisabetta Benassi, Marco Tirelli, Gabriele Silli, Silvia Giambrone, Enzo Cucchi, Luigi Ontani, Pietro Ruffo, Giulio Bensasson, Lulù Nuti and Rä Di Martino.
